What is Clinical Research

Definition: Any investigation in human subjects intended to discover or verify the clinical, pharmacological and/or other Pharmacodynamic effects of an investigational product(s), and/or to identify any adverse reactions to an investigational product(s), and/or to study absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of an investigational product(s) with the object of ascertaining its safety and/or efficacy. The terms clinical trial and clinical study are synonymous.

Course Objective

This course is designed to support the global drug development industry through the provision of graduates with sound theoretical knowledge and documented practical experience to initiate their entry-level career in Clinical and Pharmaceutical Research field. Consequently the course ILOs are based on the requirements and needs of businesses operating in that sector, primarily healthcare providers, pharmaceutical businesses, medical device manufacturers and other health based organisations.

Intended learning outcomes of the Program

  • On successful completion of the PgDipGCTM course, a student will be able to:
  • Demonstrate a critical awareness of the key concepts of clinical.
  • Evaluate and implement appropriate methodologies to acquire knowledge of appropriate/processes/systems/regulations in CR.
  • Critically evaluate and implement industrially recognized international standard processes in CR.
  • Critically evaluate and apply tools and techniques to communicate fundamentals of CR to a range of audiences.
  • Use multiple information and data sources and formats to analyse and present clinical research findings.
  • Demonstrate the translation of clinical research theory into correct industrial application.
  • Develop coherent strategies to manage clinical research within both industrial and academia.
  • Work in a team and apply tools and techniques of project management to scope and schedule clinical research projects and processes and to communicate the project outcomes orally and in writing.
  • Effectively communicate technical information in writing and in oral presentation.
  • Act as a source of professional clinical research advice and expertise.

Graduation Requirement

Students are required to complete all 10 modules and requisite components of ICRI Global Research with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.

Teaching Methodology

The course will have regular classroom lectures, hands-on simulator sessions, seminars, tutorials, group discussions, case presentations.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduates/ final year graduation students in Life Science, Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry, Paramedical Science, Allied Health Science and Biotechnology with minimum 55% aggregate. This course is offered to Singaporean citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents, or students with visa status eligible to study in Singapore.

English Language Exam

IELTS: Band 6.0 or above or TOEFL: 80 IBT
